National Assisted Living Week is a special time when assisted living communities come alive with celebrations that bring residents together. It’s a chance to share stories, make memories, and enjoy events that show the strong bond among residents, caregivers, and families. This year, the theme is Season of Reflection. This week gives our community the chance for all departments to celebrate and interact with all the residents in our community in a very special way. It gives all management and staff a chance to let our hair down a bit and have fun with the wonderful older adults we work with every day.
At Vitalia Strongsville, we are honoring residents’ lives and experiences by celebrating on Sunday with our Grandparent’s Day Sunday Brunch, Arnold Palmer Social, and a movie matinee of “Up,” for residents, their grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. On Monday, our Memory Care Team will host a 40s party with a coffee social, food, and trivia. Tuesday, the Plant Operations Team will be celebrating the 50s with a classic car PowerPoint and documentary. Wellness will rock out some 1960s exercise fads on Wednesday. Our Business Office Director is throwing a fun 70s Disco party on Thursday. The Resident Services Team will round out the week with a Totally 80s party for Happy Hour.
As the Resident Services Director, I am excited to have fun, see everyone getting involved, and spread joy throughout our community!
Taking the time to celebrate National Assisted Living Week is important. To me, Season of Reflection means bringing change, and moving into a senior living community is a big change for our residents. We want to take time this week to ensure them being here with us can feel like home and the best party they’ve ever been to! We want to make them feel comfortable with change and let them know it can be a wonderful thing.
It’s not only a time to celebrate, but also an opportunity to appreciate the staff and volunteers who make assisted living communities what they are today! This week highlights the power of connections, memories, and the spirit of togetherness that makes every resident feel at home.
