Chef Shares Sentiments

Leading With Passion and Purpose

As Culinary Director at Vitalia Strongsville, I approach each day with passion, not just purpose. I face new challenges, hear meaningful stories, and constantly find new reasons to feel grateful. I’m excited to share how I arrived in this role, what fuels my dedication, and what a typical day in our community looks like.

Culinary Director and team member work together in the kitchen, preparing and plating elegant desserts with fruit and chocolate drizzle for residents in the senior living community.

My work extends far beyond preparing meals—it centers on building connections, creating purpose, and making a real difference where it matters most.

A Career Rooted in Personal Experience

My perspective on senior living changed entirely after my grandmother moved into memory care. The compassion and support her care team gave our family left a lasting impression. That experience ultimately inspired me to pursue a career as a culinary director in senior living.

Team member helps a senior resident select fresh corn at a farmers market–style table filled with apples, berries, and produce baskets in the community.

Over a decade as an Executive Chef, paired with my time as a Corporate Trainer in the restaurant industry, helped shape the skills I use every day. That combination of hands-on culinary expertise and leadership training prepared me well to guide our team and serve our residents.

Fueling Fulfillment Every Day

What I love most about this industry is the opportunity to share my passion for food and hospitality with both residents and our incredible team. Every interaction, every meal, and every smile adds meaning to what I do.

Each morning, I begin with a cup of coffee and greet residents in the dining room. Then I meet with my culinary team to check in and see how the morning is unfolding. This early connection sets the tone for the day and helps us stay focused and collaborative.

For anyone considering a culinary career in senior living, I say this: expect the unexpected. Modern senior living dining is nothing like the stereotypes shown in movies. It’s dynamic, creative, and filled with heart.

To me, success is simple—happy residents, happy staff, and great food shared around the table.

At the end of the day, I take the greatest pride in knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful—whether through a favorite dish, a heartfelt exchange, or a quiet moment of comfort. Thank you for welcoming me into your community and allowing me to serve at your table. I’m truly honored.
