Vitalia Senior Residences at Strongsville Shows Appreciation to Its Waitstaff

Category: Senior Living

Author: Amy Glaser, Culinary Director

May 21st is National Waitstaff Appreciation Day. The difference between an okay dining experience and one that is truly remarkable lies in the hands of your waiter or waitress. They are the unsung heroes in our restaurants, and without them, we wouldn’t be able to operate at the level you’ve come to expect.

National Waitstaff Appreciation Day was created by Fred Sirieix. He wanted to celebrate all waitstaff, from those in the finest restaurants to the ones in the least exotic locations. Sirieix’s goal was to change the perception of waitstaff as being unskilled and show them as hardworking people they are, doing skilled work that can lead to a rewarding career. It was proposed by Sirieix in 2012 and was first celebrated in 2013.

As the Culinary Director at Vitalia Senior Residences at Strongsville, I consider enthusiasm and positive attitude to be the attributes of a great server. In addition, they will take the time to become familiar with the residents, building rapport to get to know their likes and dislikes, dietary needs, and restrictions. A great server is also able to effectively collaborate with the rest of the kitchen staff to maintain an efficient and pleasant work environment.

Our servers play an integral role in the quality of our restaurant as their interactions with our residents is an important part of the dining experience. They provide an important link to both residents and kitchen staff.

I’m proud to work with DeeDee, Allyson, Mary, Twila, Lisa, Gracen, Sylvia, Nick, Veera, Ryan, Synthia, Matt, and Mary B. We will be celebrating with a special lunch, including cake, in our private dining room, along with a small gift basket or gift card. Also, we’ll get thank you cards for the servers and have other staff and residents sign.

To my waitstaff, thank you for all the hard work you do for the kitchen staff and all the residents! You are a great asset to Finley’s Restaurant by providing an excellent dining experience!

This year, as we all settle in for a fantastic meal, let’s take a moment to recognize the hardworking men and women that make up Arrow’s waitstaff. Their smiles and personalities help make our days a little brighter and the meals taste a little better. Thank you to them all.
