Choosing a Word of the Year is more than a fun tradition. It is a powerful tool for focus and growth at Vitalia Strongsville. Our community selected Accountability as the 2025 Word of the Year and intentionally wove it into daily operations and resident experiences. Directors led by example, modeling accountability in their actions and decisions. This approach set clear expectations and created consistency across the team. As accountability became part of everyday practice, teamwork strengthened and communication improved. The community felt more dependable and supportive as a result.
We also invited residents to take ownership of staying informed. Town hall participation increased, and residents made greater use of events calendars and shared updates. This reduced confusion and helped limit the familiar response of not knowing about an event or change.
Focusing on accountability led to noticeable improvements in resident engagement. Event participation increased, and residents became more involved in welcoming and supporting new neighbors. Many took pride in helping others feel connected and informed. This shared responsibility reinforced a stronger sense of belonging throughout the community.
The most important lesson from this year is the value of holding everyone to the same standards. When staff and residents share clear expectations, trust grows and consistency follows. Accountability creates clarity, strengthens relationships, and supports a healthier community culture.
