Empowering Aging with Tech

Category: Technology and Safety

Author: Jill Pawloski, Resident Services Director

Older Adults and the Rise of Technology

When people think about older adults and technology, outdated stereotypes still linger—like resistance to learning or a lack of understanding. However, today’s reality paints a far different picture. Many aging adults are not only embracing technology but also actively seeking tools that make life easier, more connected, and more enjoyable.

Technology use among older adults continues to grow. For example, a 2024 national AARP survey revealed that 66 percent of respondents said technology enriches their lives by helping them manage daily tasks and stay connected. From video chats with family to health-tracking apps, older adults are becoming fluent in the digital language of convenience. As a result, they expect their living environments to evolve with them.

Technology That Simplifies Daily Life

At Vitalia Strongsville, staying connected goes beyond offering Internet access. It involves providing practical, user-friendly tools that enhance everyday experiences. One of the most helpful tools is the Arrow App. With just a few taps, residents can check daily menus, browse the event calendar, view updates, access wellness resources, and send messages directly to staff.

Notably, residents can submit maintenance requests right from their rooms. This simple change has eliminated the need to report issues at the front desk, streamlining communication for everyone. While the increase in requests keeps our Plant Operations Department busy, residents appreciate the added convenience.

Improving Engagement for Residents and Families

Additionally, many residents enjoy using the app to explore daily and weekly dining options. This feature helps them plan ahead and look forward to their favorite dishes.

Families have also shared positive feedback. They use the app to view daily events and encourage loved ones to participate. As a result, they feel more connected to life inside the community and can spark more engaging conversations with their loved ones.

A Commitment to the Future

The Arrow App is more than just a convenience—it represents a promise. A promise to close communication gaps, promote independence, and enrich the senior living experience. As the next generation enters senior living with even higher digital expectations, our community is already prepared. With tech-forward tools in place, we are building a future that is both innovative and deeply connected.
